Kids Learn Bike Skills and Help Fundraise for School

A ByK Mum recently alerted us to a great fundraising activity their local school has initiatied.  Not only do they raise funds for the school, but the kids get to have heaps of fun with the bikes!

Activity stations help children to build on skils such as balancing, turning, stopping, scanning and riding through and over obstacles - all of which increase their ability to manage real life situations on their ride to school, or just riding around local neighbourhoods or trails.

The Porepunkah Bike Safety Rodeo is a Porepunkah Primary School Parents and Friends fundraising event run by school and community volunteers.

The event is held to help teach children about the importance of safe cycling skills, through fun challenges and skills based activities.

The event is open to all primary-school aged children and is run on the Public Reserve, at Porepunkah Primary School and on the section of road between the two which is closed to through traffic for the event.

Sessions run for approximately 90 minutes and include bike and helmet checks at the beginning and a rest/drink break part way through the session.

The children move around activity stations and build on skills including balancing, turning, stopping, scanning and riding through and over obstacles This is done via various skills based games, activities and challenges that make up the program. Parents are required to remain onsite for the duration of the activity session.

What a great initiative of the parents and friends association of this school! Well done and happy riding to all the Porepunkah School Kids!
